FIRE: Chris Rado grenades his 1,200 horsepower Scion tC at Global Time Attack

Chris Rado pushes his 1,200 horsepower front-wheel drive Scion tC to the absolute limits this weekend at the Global Time Attack season opener at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California. Coming around one of the final turns of the course Chris lost a cam sensor which ended up locking up the engine and putting a rod through the block igniting the fire and burning the entire engine bay and many of the electronic components. The Safecraft fire system failed when he pulled the cable, but nevertheless the driver walked away unharmed and nonchalantly extinguished the fire with his on board fire extinguisher.

Double Duty at Buttonwillow for Round #1 of Global Time Attack 2012

Chris took first place in Unlimited GT FF over the weekend during the first Global Time Attack race of 2012 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park with a lap time of 1:49.116. The sun was pounding 100 degree rays down on the track all weekend which meant the cars would be against much more rigorous conditions. For final results of GTA round #1 click here

We also brought out the Descendant Racing tC2 streetcar to compete in the Street Tire class with Mike Bonanni behind the wheel. The heat would prove to be an issue for the tC2 and since this was the first on track test session with the car it would need some work on the setup before it was ready for serious battle.

The front bumper, hood and canards have been modified by WORLD Racing. Paint and bodywork by Esteban and Damian over at Auto Explosion We also added a honeycomb splitter from our friend KC over at APR Performance.

Rado also brought home first place in NASA TTR (time trial) and overall fastest lap with a 1:48.323 around configuration CW13 ahead of the Team Nobama Chevrolet Lister. For complete results for NASA Socal click here

Special Thanks to Harris from Instyle Graphics for coming through on the last minute sticker order! The cars came out great, don’t you agree?
